‘Nouveau Cirque du Vietnam weaves magic.’

- The Australian

After a sell out season in 2017 Nouveau Cirque du Vietnam promises to be the hottest ticket in town when they return to the Regal Theatre with a breathtaking new show.

Bamboo poles sway as contortionists, acrobats and jugglers expertly balance and leap from them. A village goes about its daily life as live music, performed by virtuosi musicians, accompanies the action. This is circus at its absolute best!

Nouveau Cirque du Vietnam promises to be the hottest ticket in town when they return to the Regal Theatre. Merging tradition and innovation, Lang Toi uses poetic imagery, folk music and incredible acrobatic skill to create a spellbinding event for the whole family.

On stage 15 acrobats and four musicians evoke the daily life of a traditional Vietnamese village. With just a few bits of string, bamboo and bicycle inner-tube, superb moving structures are built and rebuilt before your eyes as you’re transported into the heart of the action in a rice field, at a child’s game, at the market or during a storm.

Experience the beauty of Vietnamese culture in this thrilling theatrical experience that has delighted audiences around the world.

About the Artists

Tuan Le
Tuan Le started his stage career with juggling at the age of six and by 14 had joined Berlin’s Ufa Fabrik as a juggling artist. He is the first and only Vietnamese artist to sign a long-term contract with Cirque du Soleil as a solo artist and the first Asian to receive the Award of Excellence from the International Jugglers’ Association. He has created work for Teatro Zinzanni and Cirque du Soleil, including Toruk, Cirque du Soleil’s Avatar-inspired production. He is the founder of Nouveau Cirque du Vietnam and his most important work embodies Vietnamese culture.

Nguyen Nhat Ly
Nguyen Nhat Ly was born in France but spent his childhood in Vietnam. He is one of the two founders of Art Ensemble, an organisation that educates Asian children about traditional music. Considering himself as ‘having more Vietnamese than French blood’, Ly has a special love for the rich culture and heritage of Vietnam. This is evident in the mesmerising sounds of both traditional and contemporary musical instruments he has brought to productions including A O Lang Pho and his many other critically-acclaimed collaborations. He created a music lab studio, Phusa Lab, near the West Lake in Hanoi and has started the first traditional symphonic orchestra with traditional instruments in Vietnam called Seaphony.

Nguyen Lân Maurice
Born in France, Nguyen Lân Maurice trained at the National Circus School in Vietnam as a child. When the family moved back to France in 1985, he started to perform with Cirque Plume before becoming artistic director of circus school Arc en Cirque. He was involved in the first version of Lang Toi, and as a training director on this and subsequent shows, A O Lang Pho and Teh Dar, he has sought to create art from a place of no preconceptions. His mission is to work with artists and to help them ‘unlearn’ their habits and past routines – then nurture their creativity, arts sense and innovation.
