This not-to-be-missed Friday night panel discussion takes you right to the heart of Our Imagined Selves, giving you an essential compass to navigate the rich program of interweaving stories in the weekend ahead.

Australian novelist and journalist Trent Dalton’s acclaimed debut novel Boy Swallows Universe draws on aspects of his own life to create a powerful tale of love and loss. A story of brotherhood, true love and the most unlikely of friendships

Blogger and appearance activist Carly Findlay’s extraordinary and moving memoir Say Hello is her rousing manifesto on disability; challenging your assumptions on the way you see the world. It is her story which leaves you cheering for her courage and irrepressible spirit.

After fleeing the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Future D Fidel’s spent eight years in a camp before being accepted as a refugee in Australia. His debut fiction novel Prize Fighter follows Isa in a story similar to his own from a Congolese orphan, to child soldier and triumphantly to a brilliant boxer.

In what promises to be an unforgettable encounter with three very different writers united by a belief in the transformative power of language, author Sisonke Msimang leads a discussion about shaping stories from the stuff of life - and saving ourselves in the process.
